Our clients: Oban embarks on University of Sussex projects
Oban Multilingual is currently working with the University of Sussex on a major international digital marketing contract.
Using cultural insights and resources, Oban has been contracted to develop and implement a paid media project that will drive international enquiries for key courses. The University of Sussex welcomes around 20 percent of its students from outside the UK, and attracting these students is an important part of the University’s financial and cultural objectives.
“Naturally, we’re excited about this opportunity to work with a major university, especially a local one that several of our own employees attended” said managing director Greig Holbrook. “Attracting international students to British universities is of critical importance from a cultural perspective. It’s increasingly a marketing problem, and a digital marketing problem specifically – as a multilingual, multicultural agency we’re thrilled to be working on this project.”
Established in 1961 as the first of the ‘plate glass’ universities, the University of Sussex is a campus university situated in the South Downs National Park, on the outskirts of Brighton. With 13,000 students and over 800 academic staff, Sussex is a leading research university – 18 subjects regularly rank in the top 20 for research in the UK, with Sussex’s work regularly described as “world leading”.
This international context is important for the university – in addition to its research, it attracts staff and students from 120 different nations and nearly a third of all staff come from outside the UK. Indeed, its list of alumni includes notable politicians and former politicians from Grenada, Kenya, Malta, Malaysia, Pakistan, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Zambia and the U.S. (including former South African President Thabo Mbeki).
